Shenandoah Community Center

The Triplett High and Vocational School was built in 1939 with a subsequent cafeteria addition built in the 1950’s. The building functioned as a school until 1992, after which it was donated to the town of Mount Jackson. The building was used by the local fire department and rescue squad, and during this time, a steel-framed, five-bay garage was added along with office space.

This adaptive reuse project includes complete renovations to the existing buildings while maintaining the defining historical characteristics. The Shenandoah Community Center includes sports and recreation facilities, a full-service commercial kitchen, event venues, teaching rooms, and gallery spaces. Historic tax credits are a funding source for the project and the work satisfies both state and federal historic rehabilitation standards.
